Today the Tennessee Senate passed a measure to arm teachers with a concealed handgun in the classroom.
My three amendments would've added more responsible, common-sense provisions:
● to require de-escalation training foe teachers who wish to carry (our priority should be preventing violence!) ● to exclude substitutes and less qualified teachers with a temporary teaching license from carrying a handhun ● to declare classrooms a stressful "hazardous work environment" and grant teachers hazard pay under these hostile working conditions
All the amendments were voted down.👎🏾
I'm outraged as a public school parent.
🤔We won't pay teachers their worth, but they can carry a gun.
🤔We won't give teachers school supplies, but they can carry a gun.
🤔We won't let teachers teach accurate history, but they can carry a gun.
